At Kusser, design development begins with material knowledge. Nearly 100 years of experience working with granite, combined with an in-house engineering department, shape how ambitious concepts are translated into buildable solutions. International recognition came early with the floating granite sphere, proving that stone could do more than expected. That same mindset still defines the work today. Ideas are pushed forward until they hold up structurally, technically, and visually.

Design Capabilties

Planning & Budgeting

Early project phases benefit from clear technical input and well-defined parameters. Design options, preliminary budgeting, constructability feedback, and early visual studies help establish what is achievable before key decisions are finalized. When site conditions, technical requirements, and budget expectations are addressed at the appropriate stage, projects advance with fewer revisions and a more defined direction.
Kusser supports the full planning process—from early ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) budgeting through development of a fixed, contracted project amount—providing continuity and clarity at each stage of project definition and execution.

Design & Engineering

Support can begin at any phase of development, from schematic design to final construction documents and fabrication drawings. Structural calculations, granite detailing, and hydraulic integration are developed together, keeping performance requirements tied to the architectural concept from the beginning. Close collaboration with aquatic engineers helps carry that logic through the project and turns strong ideas into systems ready for execution.

Mockups

Mockups make material qualities, detailing, and technical ideas easier to assess before fabrication begins. Depending on the project, this may involve samples, scaled studies, or representative sections showing how water, lighting, and surface treatment work together. Granite-related mockups are produced at the German facilities. Non-granite mockups and system components can be developed at the U.S. facility, giving project teams a reliable basis for review before production starts.

Our design-build approach bridges architectural intent and executed construction. We take the initial design vision and develop a complete set of coordinated, build-ready shop drawings for review and approval by the design team. Once approved, we transition seamlessly into fabrication and construction under a single contract, maintaining continuity from design development through final installation. This integrated process supports clear communication, streamlined coordination, and efficient project delivery through to completion.

Benefits

Design Integrity

We begin by understanding the architectural and artistic intent behind each project. Engineering development translates that vision into structurally sound, buildable solutions that preserve the strength and clarity of the original concept.

Integrated Mechanical Systems

Mechanical equipment assemblies are planned and custom-built in-house, allowing full control over quality, performance, and system integration. Pumps, controls, and technical infrastructure are developed as part of the overall concept, ensuring that the visible design and the invisible systems function as one.

Factory Validation

Our modular granite system allows features to be fully assembled and tested in the factory prior to shipment. Fit, finish, detailing, and operational performance are verified under controlled conditions, and clients may witness testing in person to review the feature in operation before it leaves the facility.

Coordinated Execution

Kusser coordinates site construction and the assembly of surrounding architectural elements to ensure seamless integration with the fountain system. Coordinating work across trades reduces communication gaps.

Long-Term Availability

With more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. market, Kusser provides ongoing support.

Collaborations
